Ron : I enjoy all of your info about chickens. I am new at the game. I acquired 3 hens in April and they have been doing theirjob providing me with enough eggs that I need. But I suspect that my Buff Orpington is laying 2 Eggs at the same sitting. Is that possible? I occassionaly find 2 Eggs sitting side by side like the photo. Ron.
My Reply : I have heard of hens laying two eggs in the same day (several hours apart) but as far as I know it is not possible to lay two eggs in the same sitting – but if I am wrong it wouldn’t be the first time 🙂 It is a lot more likely that they are sharing the same nest box.
To me looking at the 2 eggs they are completely different to me that is a good indication they were layed by 2 separate hens almost always if you will check hens usually lay the same shaped egg each day it’s unusual for them to lay different shaped and sized eggs except for young pullets who are starting to lay that has been my experience a hens usual laying cycle runs between 22- to 26 hours between eggs
